Term two has begun with soccer world cup fever. Having spent club time during first term learning how to play soccer and what the rules are, they are confident that they will enjoy the media coverage more. The girls have chosen the teams they wish to support and now that Fridays have become ‘dress in soccer kit’ days, they arrive wearing colours from various countries.
All the excitement of their first school play, Alice in Wonderland is the new focus as it becomes a reality. Well known nursery rhymes and songs have been included in their act and they are looking forward to performing in front of a live audience.
Grade Four H enjoyed preparing for and presenting their class assembly play, Dumpy Le Rue about a pig who wanted to dance. This was both amusing and entertaining while imparting a strong message about following your dreams.
In Design and Technology the girls were divided into groups. Each group designed and made a cardboard pram which had to be able to hold a teddy bear, while being pushed around the hockey field three times. This is usually watched by the whole school who were vastly amused at the many pitfalls the girls encountered with wheels coming adrift and teddies flying.
Academically, we’re on track. All mathematical operations have now been studied at a higher level than previously. Being able to convert analogue to digital time and vice versa has proved challenging for many of them. All parts of speech have been learnt and consolidated with various assessments. They are now able to navigate their way around a map thanks to direction work in Geography. The History of Johannesburg is now no longer a mystery since they have completed this section of the learning area.
