We were thrilled to be given the opportunity to appear on SABC 2’s ‘Morning Live’ television programme on Tuesday 8 June.

Some Grade 6 and 7 girls, Mrs Kathy Salgado, Mama Ndaba and I met in the SABC Television Park Visitors car park at 05:30.  It was dark and chilly and SO exciting!  We trooped up to the ‘Morning Live’ studio carrying Mrs Salgado’s portable piano.

Everything was buzzing in the studio as we saw Vuyo and Leanne getting their final make up touches, the camera men preparing for the morning and the producer running around discussing the morning’s programme.  Leanne waved ‘hello’ to the girls and made them feel welcome and the 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 count down began to 06:00.

Being on a live programme made us realise that anything could happen at any time as I had previously been warned by the producer.  So our girls were given only a few seconds’ notice to perform their first beautiful song which was written by Mrs Salgado.  It sounded amazing and it felt like the studio walls reverberated with their sound.  Both songs were sung superbly by the girls and Vuyo and Leanne clapped along to the songs.  Everyone in the studio practically gave the girls a standing ovation after their second song, ‘Day by Day’!

I am so proud of the girls and the way they behaved.  They had to be so patient at times as they sat very quietly waiting for their cue.  Well done girls!

After the girls had performed, Leanne came and chatted to us after which the girls got to meet a famous American singer who was waiting to appear on the programme.  This made their day!

It was an awesome experience which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
