Aluminium Foil Collection
This year, there is a huge aluminium foil collection competition at the Brighwater Commons.  People are striving to collect over 750kg of aluminium foil.  All of the foil collected is put into a giant soccer ball.

One of the representatives of this event came to APPS to tell us all about his project.  He is trying to break a world record and recycle at the same time.

The money that is collected from the foil collection will be given to various charities.  Naseerah and I went to a photo shoot at Brightwater Commons to advertise the competition.

APPS is currently coming fourth in the competition and we are very proud to be helping in this wonderful event.

A recycling campaign was launched on 1 April 2010 at the Brightwater Commons.  A gigantic soccer ball is placed on a grassy area outside the Woolworths store in the shopping centre.  Schools and the public are placing their used aluminium into the soccer ball.  This is an attempt to break a record for the most recycled aluminium in the SA Book of Records.  The aim is 750kg, beating the previous record of 732kg.

This recycling programme will also be used as a fundraiser for the Lehol le Tshepo Centre in Windsor.  This school caters for children from disadvantaged communities in Windsor.  This will be done through the selling of advertising space on the panels of the soccer ball.  Many prizes can be won.

On a sunny afternoon, Caitlin and I and pupils from different schools gathered at the Brightwater Commons.  We had our photographs taken holding foil and surrounding the soccer ball.  The photographer was very good and the photo shoot was an experience of a lifetime.
