Grade 6 Being a Rosebush
Why on earth would a pack of playing cards paint three rosebushes red you might think? Well the playing cards accidentally planted white rosebushes instead of red rosebushes and if the red queen saw white rosebushes, we would all loss our heads.
I turned around, as the pack of playing cards paint me from a white to a red rosebush.
Our rosebush outfits with creamy white and tomato red roses sewed on to luminous green netting were probably the funkiest costumes in ‘Alice in Wonderland’. We all had fun playing ‘Simon Says’ with the head chopping Queen of Hearts.
Claudia North – Grade 6
I was standing on stage in my luminous green tree outfit while cardsmen petrified of a head chopping Queen of Hearts, painted my creamy white roses a cherry red. I could feel the paint brushes lightly stroke my petals.
The Queen was rambling on about how everything had to be done her way or she would throw a ‘hissi fit’ and cut off your head, and before she knew it, Alice had beaten her at her own game of ‘Simon Says’. As usual the Queen went into a blind fit of rage and demanded Alice’s head to be chopped off. The King suggested a trial and the Queen huffed and puffed but gave in in the end.
I’m not really sure what happened after that, but I hope things turned out okay for Alice as I quite liked her especially compared to that awful Queen of Hearts!
Liezl Kritzinger – Grade 6
This year, the Grade 4 to 7 girls at APPS performed in a play. This year the play of choice was ‘Alice in Wonderland’. In the past years, the plays have been great but this year’s show was outstanding. The Grade 7 class of 2010 were each given a role that suited them to perfection.
Every role was a main role and nobody was left out of the excitement. I was given the role of ‘Small Alice’. Small Alice takes over from Alice as soon as she eats a magic cookie. These cookies either make Alice big or small. ‘Tall Alice’ was placed by Amy Vermooten. ‘Medium Alice’ or just ‘Alice’ was played by Calla Woodin. I thoroughly enjoyed the play and loved being Small Alice. I had scenes with Michèle, the Caterpillar, Leah the Dodo Bird and The Girls of The Golden Afternoon (Sasha, Sophia, Megan, Natale and Melissa).
Every show seemed to get better and better! I wish that it wasn’t over because it was a really fantastic experience and brought all the Grade 7 girls together.
Caitlin Rabe – Grade 7
I’m sure everyone knows by now that the school play this year was ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Many parents, family and friends came to see these wonderful performances.
Every year, Mrs Levin puts together a play based on our classes’ personalities. I do think this means that our class is completely insane and that we are all weird but incredibly funny!
On stage, the shows were slick and amusing as well as being professional. There was huge effort put in the pre planning and back stage work.
All in all, the entire Grade 7 class had such fun planning and performing these shows. Of course, this could not have happened without the help of many teachers and parents.
This was the best experience of my life! After all the long hours of auditioning, I got the part of ‘Alice’. I worked so hard to learn all my words but it was most definitely worth it!
All the Grade 7 girls put in so much effort and made this an unforgettable play. The costumes, backdrops, props and so much more turned the hall into a wonderland.
Everyone was so right for their part and made the characters come to life. It was so much fun performing.
This has been the best thing I’ve ever done and I’m so sad it’s over, but I just want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who gave me this opportunity – it was the best!
