‘Every Chess master was once a beginner’ (Chernev)
Why should any of the girls consider choosing chess as one of their extra-mural activities?
Well, not only is chess regarded as 'The Game of Kings', it is also a power exercise to develop your thinking skills. It is said that the lessons learned at chess are applicable throughout everyday life. Skills such as organising, thinking ahead, planning, remembering and general good sense will be of use both while playing chess and everywhere else.
With assistance and coaching from Mrs Pengelly and Mrs Macleod, the Junior Chess club is also a great place for the girls to socialise and interact with one another in a stimulating environment.
The Junior Chess club meets every Monday afternoon from 14:30 to 15:15 in the Science Lab and the club is open to any girls from Grade 1 to Grade 3. No prior experience required!
We look forward to seeing one and all on Monday afternoons!
Mrs Debbie Macleod
