Hockey Festivals The Grade 4 and 5 Hockey festival which took place on Saturday 29 May at St Mary’s School Waverley was most successful for our APPS teams. Both teams played many short matches against various schools.
The girls played very well and thoroughly enjoyed the morning. Thank you to the parents for their support and congratulations to the girls who conducted themselves so well on and off the field. Well done to all of our players.
The Grade 2 and 3 hockey girls played their first games for APPS in a festival which took place at the Roedean astroturf on Saturday 24 July. The girls were extremely excited and played with much enthusiasm!
The results were very good for the start of their hockey careers at school. Well done to all players.
Hockey League The hockey season has drawn to a close and for APPS, hockey was an immense success this year. All teams, from the Grade 3 girls to the Grade 7 girls, performed above expectations with some good results.
Our success can be attributed, not only, to the girls’ utter determination, spirit and love for the game but to all the coaches who indeed moulded and improved the girls’ skills.
Another big thank you must go to the mums who helped with the teas for all our home matches. The staff and girls really appreciate all the time everyone has put in to making the hockey afternoons at the UJ astroturf run so smoothly. Last but not least, to parents for their help and support with lifting, thank you very much.
Riverside Hockey Festival The Grade 6 and 7 hockey teams went on tour to Riverside for the annual hockey festival from Friday 30 July to Sunday 1 August.
Every year the players look forward to the tour with great excitement. The hockey that is played at this festival is of a high standard and greatly beneficial to the girls. The games are very competitive and at the same time, loads of fun. Both teams improved tremendously, with the Grade 6 team not conceding a goal. Well done!
On the Saturday evening of the hockey festival, it is traditional that each team performs a prepared skit. This year the theme was memorable moments of the Soccer World Cup. There were many unusual and interesting performances. The APPS girls wore the South African flag on their faces.
The weekend was very rewarding and entertaining. ‘An experience not to be missed’.
