From the HOD, Foundation Phase |
|
The FIFA Word Cup is on our doorstep and excitement has been building at school. The girls thoroughly enjoyed wearing their Bafana Bafana T-shirts every Friday and bought Zakumi blankets, backpacks and vuvuzelas to enhance their outfits and add to the vibe. It has been wonderful to see how enthusiastically everyone supported this drive. It was also interesting to see the occasional T-shirt supporting another country. Those girls wore these with great pride and caused quite a stir!
The long break is ahead of us and we all are looking forward to some time to sit in front of the television and watch chosen soccer games. Some families have been fortunate to have secured seats for matches and they are the envy of many others.
The Foundation Phase has been very busy this term and everyone has worked hard. The Grade 0 girls hosted a lovely Mothers’ Day picnic as well as a successful Fathers’ Day braai. Fortunately, there were some additional boerewors rolls which were thoroughly enjoyed by the staff!
The Grade 1 girls experienced a different day at school and ‘hibernated’ for a day and all work was completed under blankets and in all sorts of exciting hiding places which they thoroughly enjoyed!
The Grade 2 girls almost completed their 2010 projects and will mount them after the break when they have been able to collect pictures published in the newspapers.
The Grade 3 girls did an in depth project on the 2010 soccer and Mrs Govender’s class enthusiastically presented their findings at a recent class assembly.
The soup drive initiated by Grade 2 for the Child Welfare organisation who are looking after children in the White River and Nelspruit area proved to be a resounding success. All girls from Grade 0 to Grade 7 responded and the packets of soup just kept on arriving in the Grade 2 classrooms. I am sure the local shopkeepers have been wondering why packet soup suddenly became so very popular! Belinda, the Child Welfare representatave in that area was completely overwhelmed by the generosity displayed by the APPS family. Mrs Nugent and I wish to thank everyone for supporting this initiative with such enthusiasm. We collected over one thousand packets of soup and cup a soup which will keep lots of tummies very happy this winter!
I wish everyone a safe and restful break and look forward to seeing you all when school resumes on Tuesday 13 July. Remember we will still be wearing winter uniform!
